We started out in 2015 as ING’s software development hub – a distinct entity from ING Bank Romania – then steadily expanded our range to include more services and competencies. Formerly known as ING Tech, as of 2022 we provide borderless services with bank-wide capabilities under the name of ING Hubs Romania and operate from two locations: Bucharest and Cluj- Napoca.                                                                                                                                                           

With the help of over 1700 engineers, risk, and operations professionals, we offer 130 services in tech, non-financial risk & compliance, audit, and retail operations to 24 ING units worldwide. Our tech capabilities remain the core of our business, with more than 1500 colleagues active in Data Management, Touchpoint, Channels & Integration, Core Banking, and Global Products.

The mission:

You will be the chapter lead of one of the Open Banking squads.
The squad is owning and developing several Open Banking products and services with a healthy mix between regulatory (PSD2 Third Party Providers onboarding and management) and commercial propositions (e.g. Assisted Channel for the premium API propositions that our Wholesale Banking clients are eager for). This means that on a day-to-day basis you can have challenges from across the bank, catering to diverse groups of end customers.

Next to this you will contribute to the developer portal (developer.ing.com), which enables parties to connect and create value in an easy, secure and scalable way.

In terms of stakeholders, you will deal with external consumers and internal clients (like Wholesale Banking, Open Banking Customer Loyalty Team, other Banking Technology teams, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:

From a managerial / people leader point of view, you will:

• Ensure the individual development and craftmanship of your team members, so that they can successfully fulfill their roles;
• Stimulate a continuous delivery culture in terms of services and working conditions;
• Hands-on technical activity as member of your Squad where you provide the automation, tooling, resilience, and security necessary for smooth feature delivery by your Squad;
• Work together with your Squad to help them maintain a secure, highly available, and compliant infrastructure;
• Take responsibility for the applications on Development, Test as well as Acceptance and Production environments. You automate relentlessly: Testing (Functional, Performance, Security), Deployments, and Operations (Data Center failover, Backups/Restore, Security);
• Coordinate infrastructure related operations, Incident & Change Management with SRE;
• Make sure that your chapter is able to handle unexpected situations (colleagues leaving the company, organizational changes, major incidents on our applications, etc.);
• Coordinate the Risk related activities with focus on reusability (some parts of it can be shared by multiple teams);
• As part of a cross-border (Amsterdam, Bucharest) Squad you work in an Agile/Scrum way, on the backlog prioritized by a Product Owner;
• You help your team develop through coaching, mentoring and constant feedback;
• Together with your IT Area Lead you set targets for each team member;
• You are responsible for HR related activities: 1 to 1 meetings with your team members, performance management, etc;
• You work with the recruitment team to attract, onboard and retain top talent.

What you'll bring to the team

Able to help with a diverse ecosystem: back-end with Spring/Spring Boot and Java 17, dockerized development, production metrics, NoSQL distributed databases.

The Team will have existing applications in portfolio as well as fresh developments.

• 7+ years of Java software engineering experience;
• Experience with the Spring/Spring MVC/Spring Boot, REST APIs design and implementation;
• Experience with asynchronous communication (event streaming – Kafka, etc.);
• Previous coordination role;
• Experience with coaching and motivating team members;
• Advanced knowledge of Java 11/17 or higher;
• Experience in developing automated testing;
• Familiarity with tools like Confluence, Git, Jenkins, Maven;
• Experience or affinity with IT Security concepts;
• Strong analytical skills, proactivity, and willingness to share knowledge with others;
• E2E product delivery previous involvement.

What would be a plus:

• Kotlin experience;
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Open Shift;
• Working experience in Azure Cloud;
• Frontend development skills (javascript, web components).

• Foreign languages: Good written and verbal English skills.

• Education: A University degree in Computer Science, Cybernetics or equivalent.
